Client Bios:
Henry VIII was born on June 28th, 1491. He was formerly named Henry Tudor, but became “Henry VIII” after the death of his brother, Arthur, who was 15 at the time and was the one who had the throne. Henry became king at the age of 10. He married Arthur’s widow, Catherine of Aragon, daughter of the Spanish King and queen, in order to affirm his family’s alliance with Spain. On February 18th, 1516 Catherine bore Henry their first child, Princess Mary. Henry was frustrated as he seemed to be unable to conceive a male child, so he kept two mistresses at disposition. He asked the pope for a marriage annulment. In 1533 Henry’s mistress, Anne Boleyn, became pregnant. Henry and Anne Boleyn got married in secret in January of 1533, and she bore him a little girl, whom was named Elizabeth. In 1534 Henry declared himself the supreme head of the Church of England. After this, the Christian Church separated. After Anne miscarried twice, Henry became interested in Jane Seymour, and so he constructed a story that Anne had committed adultery and had relations with other man, and was plotting to kill him. He annulled their married and he put Anne on trial. She plead not guilty, but regardless of her plea, Henry brought her to Green Tower and had her beheaded in private. After 24 hours of her death, Henry and Jane Seymour became newly weds. Jane gave Henry his son, and he was named Edward. She died nine days later from an infection from the pregnancy. Three years later he married again, Anne, the sister of the Duke of Cleves. He divorced her 6 months later. A few weeks later, he married Catherine Howard, a cousin of Anne Boleyn. Catherine was 19, and Henry was 49 at the time. Catherine craved attention from boys her own age, and was found guilty of adultery. She was also executed at Green Tower, on February 13, 1542. He then married Catherine Parr, in 1543. A jousting accident cause a giant wound in Henry’s leg, and he also suffered from gout, and has pus-filled boils all over his body. He became obese and a recent study shows that he may have suffered from type II diabetes. Henry VIII died on January 28th, 1547, at the age of 55, in London. His only son, Edward, inherited the throne.
Anne Boleyn was born in 1501, in England. She lived in France in the time of her youth, and returned to England in 1522 to be the maid of honour of Henry VIII’s wife, Catherine of Aragon. During this time, Anne became one of the most admired females of the court, attracting many men. As Henry and Catherine didn’t conceive a male child, Henry began to fancy her and she started to have an affair with the king. Anne and Henry conceived a little girl, named Elizabeth, after he annulled his marriage with Catherine. She also gave birth to a stillborn male in January of 1536, and that was when Henry began to fancy Jane Seymour. He decided he wanted Jane to be his future wife, however he had to find a valid reason to annul his marriage with Anne. Anne was suddenly accused of adultery, incest and conspiracy, which were all punishable by death. She was put on trial and detained in the Tower of London. She denied all of the accusations, however, Henry was so stuck on marrying Jane, that he had her executed. She was privately beheaded in Green Tower, and her body was buried in an unmarked grave.
